Pondsfilk 2010 x post
I'm sorry to make this announcement but due to a lack of pre-reg and funding we have to cancel our anticipated 2010 event. It was possible with enough publicity we could have received commitments for the min room block but it's not a convenient location and with the new US TSA travel regs it's just too much hassle for many. The major concern was getting people from the airport/ferry to the lodge. While it might not have cost more than a taxi for OVFF, the folks that attend regularly aren't in a position to pay that and while I did look at hiring someone to spend the weekend just driving people, again... it's a financial burden we couldn't assume. I highly recommend the lodge for anyone looking to get really away for a weekend. World class food and lovely surroundings, guided meditations, private function space... We'll review our lives and the situation next year. In the Fall of 2009 I donated 31 bags of bedding to the Salvation Army. Many people were much warmer this Winter. Nine years of wonderful music, GOH's and friends deserves a pat on the back and now a years review... Current Mood: disappointed | | Monday, July 6th, 2009 | 5:35 pm [pondside]

Pondfilk - Last Minute Change
Due to a family health emergency, Joey Shoji has had to cancel his attendance for this year. I'm sure you join us in wishing him best outcome energies both for himself and his family. Joey promises to make it up to us at a later date! We're just concerned about him and his... Judi Miller will still be in attendance and I'll be letting the UU know that Cranes over Hiroshima is canceled but the service is NOT. Victoria Memorial notice - John Caspell xpost from pondside
As posted in IslandFolk today: Well, after kicking around all the things that John would like -- (and noting that the "official" memorial is in Vancouver on the 30th weekend) we've decided to have a memorial/jam/song circle thingee on the Sunday afternoon of our traditional yearly music retreat "Pondfilk". So -- Sunday, June 28th - we'll be having a tasteful and tasty offering of that which John valued most, friends and music. At Pondside, on the front lawn, greatroom and where-ever it spreads to next. Please come and share your stories, music and appreciation of our John with us. It won't bring him back but it will make us feel better and... right now some of that would be a good thing. When Sunday - June 28th 2pm til whenever the voices stop, the food is consumed and people want to stop. We'll be at it all night - at the Folk or here..... Where Pondside, 426 Kinver Street, Victoria BC, V9A 7P3 250 361-1830 Why? Because we love him and know that some of you have asked for a local venue to be able to share your memories, music, joy and sadness. 2009 Pondfilk IX
Well, the web isn't exactly updated for guests etc but info on getting and leaving and being are all still accurate. The GOH this year is Joey Shoji, Judi Miller will be joining us again because we love her and we're hoping the rest of our family from Ohio can join us too. If you're thinking of coming -- please register and confirm accommodation and availability. In case of conflict, the participants will be sent into the koi pond to play a deciding match of water polo. Remember folks -- birth certs, passports, enhanced drivers license - all good things in this new time of awareness. You need to be able to get back home, we don't want to keep all of you (no offense) Current Mood: calm | | Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 | 6:25 pm [nimuejohn]

The Fortune Cookie Game, Pondfilk edition
This came up during the dim sum run on Sunday. The traditional version of the fortune cookie game is that you read your fortune out loud, adding at the end the words "...in bed." For example, "You will receive good news from a business partner in bed." tfabris introduced a variation where you use "...except in bed" instead. I would like to propose my own version: add the words "...using science!" | | Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 | 8:31 pm [pondside]

Updates on Pondfilk VIII
Ok -- just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page... Our GOH's this year are Peter Alway and Judi Miller. Enjoyment is not an option, it is compulsory!!! Pondfilk is NOT next weekend, it's the following weekend. June 27 through 29 or 30 or when you arrive to when you leave. Most people will be arriving Friday with a couple in the studio for the week prior and a few arriving, like the GOH's on Thursday night. Sad news, Alyssa and Luis have just had to cancel :( I have much sadness in my heart as I had bead geeking plans... Workshops are still available for those clamoring for them... you ask, we'll try to fill... guitar, harmony, dulcimer...(beading, card making...) Plans are in the works for a Live CD recording from Pondfilk VIII for Interfilk Auction at OVFF. So, before you are captured for posterity (optional -- you must opt in) practice, practice and... bring something fun and easy for us all to learn. Friday night we have Ukrainian Cultural Centre dinner plans (again, optional) Tall ships Saturday walk around Sunday night -- we open stage the folk -- Main Stage is Tom Lewis -- Shantyman. Monday -- well, if you've still got energy and are here - we have music planned... If anyone can't bring their guitar we have about 14 here so, not to panic. Ditto dulcimers OH, and we know who our 2009 Pondfilk IX GOH is and we're not telling until Pondfilk VIII is well done :p Current Mood: excited | | Saturday, May 31st, 2008 | 2:42 pm [nimuejohn]

Spelunking
This is kind of a long shot, but: Monday following Pondfilk I'm planning to run up to Horne Lake Caves and take their 3-hour spelunking tour. Is anyone else interested? I have an ultierior motive, as they need a minimum of three people or the tour will be cancelled, and as of Tuesday I'm still the only one singed up. | | Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 | 3:13 pm [solomons_pond]

PondFilk Check-in
Hey folks! We're pleased to announce/re-announce that we will not only have Peter Alway joining us for PondFilk, but the fabulous hands of Judi Miller, along with the rest of her! So, who else is actually going to show up this year? And when? Current Mood: quizzical | | Saturday, March 8th, 2008 | 11:44 am [nimuejohn]

Rideshare?
Since we're getting close to the time I have to make plane reservations - is there anyone I can hitch a ride with between SeaTac airport and Pondfilk? If so what's your schedule? I'll be either starting or ending my trip at my Mom's house in Tacoma, but if that's out of your way there's a shuttle I can take between there and the airport. | | Saturday, February 9th, 2008 | 10:23 pm [pondside]

Pondfilk VIII
Peter Alway said: My thoughts are turning to Pondfilk in just four months. Some things, like my teaching schedule, are unknowable until the beginning of May, but I find myself wondering what fine instrumentalists and harmony-adept vocalists might be available to play in the Adjunct Assistant Chamber Ensemble. And instrument things, too. | | Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 | 8:53 pm [pondside]

Pondfilk VIII
Pondfilk VIII yes, #8 is still on for the 26 -- 29th ish of June. No Fathers Day conflicts, no Eastern Filk conflicts. Not even a Conflikt conflict :) We will still have pet free sleeping areas but, if not already aware this household has a significant number of pet partners. 8 cats and 2 dogs to be precise. Now, 4 of these cats are of an extremely low allergen breed but still, they are cats. They are very social cats i.e. if you only have one of them draped on you you're probably just in the lineup for attention. Peter Alway is as confirmed going to be our Honoured Guest or GOH. He's available for concert, dulcimer workshop and jamming. We've got at least 1 maybe more guitar workshops planned and we might even get a little bit of studio time in at PondsideMusic's own ProTools studio. Don't forget to bring something for the Interfilk Auction and bring money to ensure you can bid yourself out of getting stuck with something that frightens you. -- ask Rick and John how they felt about the pink poodle purse and baby blue mohair purses they were each required to carry around in 2007. Remember, we have both budget hotels, Boutique Hotels and B&B's within 3 blocks of our venue so -- you need to plan well in advance. Victoria in the Summer is dribbled with Touri and "Be Prepared" is more than just a Tom Lehrer song. Hope to see you there... | | Saturday, June 23rd, 2007 | 11:22 pm [pondside]

Pondfilk VII xpost
Is going very well. My dad wanted to make sure I stayed round the house and rested as much as possible so my wallet and keys and laptop power supply are all missing -- this is not a bad thing (as long as they show up after we are breaking down the set) Edit: - as soon as the last of the "leaving Sunday" guests had left, Roz found my wallet. Hidden behind the table leaves that were removed and stored after dinner the first night. We had _all_ looked in every room at least twice each.
The folks here are awesome. Puzzlebox has decided that they like us :) they really like us! We're hoping they can make it back next year as honoured guests as opposed to guests of honour. Next Pondfilk will be June 26/7 to June 30ish 2008. Peter Alway will be a Guest Of Honour (right Peter?) and we'll not have personal tragedy planned for the event. Last year my dad's death, this year my Yorkie... The GOH's performed 2 concerts, bbq'd many many many protein veg and meat things and filking still goes on and on and on. We like it!!!! The Interfilk Auction raised $328.00 with kudos to the lovely lady that donated the needlework and many thanks to the folks who bid lots to ensure that Rick Weiss and drfilk both were carrying purses home :) Harlock and Heidi are going to be wonderful parents! They have been lavishing special love on petal all weekend and making sure she gets out for potty breaks. Very sweet and attentive!! The music is of course wonderful this year and I've never heard such beautiful chorus as when I came up the stairs from the basement to the mens voices raised in a Cat Faber tune of power and ose. purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Even though I've slept through a good chunk of this con due to fever and other things it has been wonderful and everyone has done their bits and more to help. I rolled a 1.2 in hostess this year and, that's not such a bad thing either. Thank you all that are here -- you are a wonderful wonderful group of humans. Except for those of you that are not human and... you're pretty wonderful too. Current Mood: happy | | Monday, June 4th, 2007 | 8:18 pm [pondside]

a rice to seatac on 25th of June

Travel arrangements
Okay... looks like Sar and I are looking at doing the Clipper route... With us traveling seperately it doesn't cost significantly more, and it is faster. (Plus it gets him on the water.) We are looking at arriving at 6:00 on Thursday, with him leaving at 11:30 on Sunday and me leaving on 11:30 on Tuesday... If all of that is okay with our hosts and transportation to and from the Clipper can be arranged, I will make the reservations. (also was considering hitting the Titanic exhibit at the BC museum on Monday if anyone else there was interested... and I can get it packaged with the clipper tickets... I have too much of my mother in me.) | | Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 | 11:35 am [runnerwolf]

Getting here and there...
I actually have from the 21st to the 25th off... I really enjoyed Sunday evening and Monday morning last year... Trying to figure out how to manage it since Sar will be lucky to get Friday off... Noting that I get motion sick I have looked at: The Clipper - Comperable to one person in a car going round trip. WA State Feries - Can't get there from here Greyhound - 12 hours but only $27 each way... (note to Vancouver is $47 round trip and only 4 hours) I looked at Kenmore as well... no way, though 1 hour sounds nice Anybody have any good thoughts on my getting to spend more time at Pondside? | | Monday, May 28th, 2007 | 11:50 pm [pondside]
